    IIR Bangalore

    The 11th edition of “Surfaces Reporter and Ply Reporter’s The Talk of Town has successfully completed in BANGALORE on 18th MAY. It was an amazing and informative event that witnessed the presence of the crème de la crème of the art and design fraternity. It also provided an amazing platform for them to engage in an edifying discussion about the city, connect and build networks.

    Curated by Madhurima Chowdhury, Surfaces Reporter’s ‘The Talk of Town’ is a neatly designed nationwide conference aimed to connect, engage, and network, for the architects and designers fraternity. It has been travelling all over India to various cities, talking about issues & ideas that concern the interior design, urban planning, architecture community, establishing dialogues on important topics and bringing together the experts.

    Soon after the lamp lighting ritual, Ms Vertica Dvivedi, founder of WADe Asia and Editor-In-Chief of Surfaces Reporter Magazine, gave a welcoming speech. She talked about the journey of SRPR’s the Talk of Town and thanked everyone for attending the event.

    The event began with the first panel discussion of the day on an extremely interesting topic- ‘The City – Bangalore – Can We Revive What We Lost’ in which panellists- Neelam Manjunath (Manasaram), Anil Bhaskaran (IDEA Centre Architects), Vijay Narnapatti (mayaPRAXIS & School of Architecture, CHRIST), Ravindra Kumar (Pragrup & Vagroup), Shobha Reddy (Jalmitra & TREND) and Anup Naik (Urban Frame – A Spacematrix Group company) shared their valuable insights. Ishita Shah (Faculty & Researcher, Srishti Institute of Art Design & Technology (Moderator) moderated the whole session carefully.

    There was encouraging audience involvement at the end of the session, which created a perfect backdrop for a special presentation by Shobha Reddy (Jalmitra). She exchanged her views on the topic, “Harnessing Public Initiatives for a Better City – Reviving Lake Rachenahalli.

    Afterwards, an informative presentation by DURADOOR happened.

    The event is now in full gear with the second panel discussion on” Designing For Happiness & Wellbeing.” The presence of Prof. Jaisim K (Jaisim-Fountainhead), Inderjeet Kembhavi (Kembhavi Architects Foundation), Anshul Chodha (Santuary Architects), Beena Patre (Visiana & Nouveau Euro Furniture), Vijaya Bhargav (Ostraca), Elayraja Mayavan (MVYN) made this discussion an electrifying one. Vertica Dvivedi, founder of WADe Asia and Editor-In-Chief of Surfaces Reporter Magazine outstandingly moderated the panel. The session saw several sharp and astute observations from all the panellists.

    Audience participated enthusiastically after the discussion. Thereafter Amulya Mica presents to the audience its unique range of products that make it stand out in the world of design and architecture. Abhishek Bhaskar made everyone nodded to his beats at the event. Then there was time for the 4th electrifying presentation of the day where Mr. Rajesh Nair from Trojan showcased their innovative products.

    Moving on, the third round of the enlivening panel discussion happened among 5 talented architects- Gauri Gore (Edifice), Kavita Sastry (KS Designs), Meghana Dutta (Studio Decode), Gururaj Paknikar (Kabra Architects) and Jaya Rayaprolu (Design Harmsony). They shared their powerful ideas and initiatives for social change in power packed, crisp and succinct manner.

    The event gathered its pace again post lunch as more interesting and engaging sessions, panel discussions and presentations were waiting for us. Post lunch Ms Vertica Dvivedi opened the session, telling everyone why we need a retailing platform like IIR.

    Our knowledge levels soared new heights with the start of the second last panel discussion on the topic ‘The Evolving Retail Culture in Bangalore’ by the Retail Space Designers, Architects and Showroom owners – Sanjay Agarwal (FRDC), Vivek Vashistha (Myinnospace), Geetha V G (FAC-Architects), Siddharth H K (The High Wall) and Swathy P. S. (IKAA Design). Vertica Dvivedi carefully observed and gave direction to their discussion.

    They were involved in an intuitive discussion on various subjects such as the current scenario of showroom designs in Bangalore, how technology is an enabler in showroom design, how showrooms should be designed that can be easily upgraded from time to time, key aspects of designing a great Interior Retailing experience and futuristic showrooms.

    Thereafter, the fifth and the last panel discussion of the day, moderated by Pragath Dvivedi, provided valuable insight into The Need for Innovative Retailing of Wood & Decorative Panel products and highlighted through inputs from experts Pragath Dvivedi, Founder, The Ply Reporter; Alay Upendra Nagori, VP, The Ahmedabad Timber Tushar K Ganatra (FABWOOD| Kayu & Kov), Jignesh R P (AAREN INTPRO), Surendra Patel (Wood Nation) and Mr Indrajeet. The session was ably moderated by Pragat Dvivedi, Founder, Ply Reporter.

    They were engaged in a discussion on the topics such as the retail culture of Bangalore, the unending spree of showroom designing, some good & not so good market practices and suggestions for upcoming showrooms. The last session of the event turned out as exciting as the first one. The enthusiasm of the attendees was intact even at the end of the event.

    It was an insightful day where the best of architects, town planners, conservationists, interior designers, heritage, real estate & sustainability experts shared their views and experiences.
